Phil Carey, Founder & President

Phil Carey is the President of Starburst Construction, which he founded in 1974. Phil is a Certified Remodeler (CR) and he has over 30 years of experience in construction of new homes as well as renovation projects.  Phil is responsible for setting the overall direction and construction strategy for the company.  He manages every project with time tested systems and procedures which will result in years of enjoyment for his clients.
 

Cindy Carey, Co-Owner & COO

Cindy Carey is a co-owner and COO of Starburst Construction.  Cindy started working as the office administrator and moved on to sales, public relations, and marketing.  Cindy is a certified GreenPoint Rater (GPR) and she is in the process of obtaining her contractors license.  Cindy manages the  business development and sales for the company.  Cindy is currently  Vice-President of National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) in the Bay Area.  Cindy holds a bachelors degree in  Public Relations and  Communications at San Jose State University.
 

Derek J. Smith, Plumber

Derek Smith has worked for Starburst over eight years in carpentry and plumbing. Derek is Phil and Cindy’s oldest son and he has been actively involved with Starburst for the majority of his life.  Derek is responsible for the plumbing aspects of each project including planning and detail designing of various types of plumbing systems. Derek values every relationship he has developed within the business, whether it be co-workers or clients. Derek demonstrates that Starburst is definitely a family company with a family feel. Derek is a proud father of two children and he currently holds the C-36 plumbing contractors license.
 

Brian Smith, Carpenter/Landscaper

Brian Smith has worked for Starburst for the past four years in carpentry and landscape.  Brian is Phil and Cindy’s youngest son and he was born in San Jose but he is a country boy at heart. He loves to hunt, fish, 4wheel, play baseball and do basically anything that has to do with the outdoors. Before Starburst, Brian worked as a landscaper and attended college. Brian enjoys learning the trade and the process of building. Currently Brian is taking a certified carpenter class to further extend his
knowledge.

 

Norah Guzman, Administrative Assistant

Norah Guzman has worked for Starburst since 2007 as the administrative assistant.  Norah is responsible for all administrative tasks plus planning company functions, working on the website, and constantly updating the office systems to be more efficient and productive.  Norah has two children and she was born and raised in San Jose, CA.  Norah enjoys theater and music and she swam competitively for 4 years.  Norah attended West Valley Community College.
